About the place

Constantin Șerban, nephew of Matei Basarab, ruled Wallachia from 1654 to 1658 and founded what is now the Patriarchal Cathedral in Bucharest. Driven from the throne, he fled to Transylvania, bought estates around Aleșd and rebuilt the Tinăud church in stone, finishing it in 1659. The building mixes Wallachian and Transylvanian styles. It is a listed monument (BH-II-m-B-01218).

Inside, the murals date from 1990–1992, but the iconostasis is 18th-century: the royal doors and the icons of the feasts and of the 12 apostles are original. In 2023 the church received a second dedication, to Saints Constantine and Helen. Nearby stands a monument to Constantin Șerban.
