You can walk through it without a guide, with a head torch, on a 260 m underground route.
About the place
Cetatea Rădesei is a hydrological through-cave: the Rădesei stream enters under a 15 m portal and comes out in the Rădesei glade. The underground route is 260 m long with a 36 m height difference. The Great Hall is lit by four shafts; then come narrow, dark passages with boulders and potholes, and at the exit you use chains.
Drive the forest road to the Vărășoaia chalet, then walk about an hour on the red marking. No guide is needed, but you need a torch or head torch. In heavy rain the stream rises and the crossing becomes almost impossible.
Good to know
- Bring a head torch for everyone and shoes that can get wet.
- Do not go in after downpours: the water fills the narrow passages.
- Combine it with Cetățile Ponorului, also on the Padiș plateau.
