In a 15-minute walk you see the town's buildings from around 1900, all listed monuments, with no ticket.
About the place
The square is listed as a historic ensemble. Start at the town hall at Strada Republicii 1, built in 1907, with a tall roof, a tower and an eagle on the gable. Next to the Ciunt Tower is the Arany Palace, built in 1912; today it houses the 'Teodor Neș' town library and an art gallery. On the same side is the Roth Armin House of 1910, with a yellow facade decorated with floral motifs.
The park in the middle has statues of Lajos Kossuth, Stephen Bocskai and Avram Iancu, and next to the Reformed church a row of busts of writers born here. The former Hotel Central of 1910 is at no. 17. Everything can be seen from outside; the town hall and the library can only be entered during their working hours.
Good to know
- Do the walk before or after the museum; all buildings are within 300 m of each other.
- On the Roth House facade look for the coloured floral decoration under the cornice.
- The library in the Arany Palace is open on weekdays.
